ECO 4 GRANTS

How is ECO4 funded?

The funding for ECO4 comes from the government's mandate on major energy suppliers. These suppliers are obligated to finance the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. This requirement is in place to drive improvements in energy efficiency throughout the United Kingdom, ultimately reducing the nation's carbon emissions.

ECO4 represents the latest iteration of the ECO program. It focuses on assisting lower-income households, aligning with the government's strategy to boost energy efficiency in homes that are at risk of fuel poverty. By targeting these households, where reduced heating costs can significantly improve overall quality of life, ECO4 aims to make a substantial impact.

ECO4 Funding Statistics:

  • 1,250 Cavity Wall Insulation Installations

  • 15,867 Gas Boiler Replacements

  • 11,584 Loft Insulation Installations

Why is insulation so important?

Insulation plays a vital role in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing energy bills. According to consumer protection magazine Which?, installing loft insulation can result in annual energy bill savings of up to £215!

Here's why insulation matters:

  • Heat Retention: Heat naturally rises, and in many homes, over 25% of the heat generated inside escapes through the roof. This underscores the importance of both loft insulation and room in roof insulation in maintaining your home's energy efficiency.

  • Energy Efficiency Improvement: Part of our survey involves inspecting existing loft insulation. In many cases, especially when the insulation thickness is less than 100mm, it can be increased to enhance energy efficiency. Loft insulation typically remains effective for an extended period, with some installations retaining their effectiveness for at least 40 years.

ECO4 funding covers a range of measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in homes. These measures include:

  1. Cavity Wall Insulation: Insulating the gaps or cavities in the walls of a property to reduce heat loss.

  2. Gas Boiler Replacement/Upgrade: Replacing or upgrading old and inefficient gas boilers with more energy-efficient models.

  3. First Time Gas Central Heating: This is for properties that have a gas connection to the property but do not have a gas combi boiler.

  4. Heating Controls Upgrade: Upgrading heating system controls to improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

  5. Loft/Room-in-Roof Insulation: Insulating the roof space or converting unused attic space to improve insulation and reduce heat loss.

  6. Solid Wall Insulation: Insulating solid walls (walls without cavities) to improve energy efficiency.

  7. External Insulation: Adding an insulating layer to the exterior of a property to enhance insulation and energy efficiency.

These measures are part of the ECO4 scheme's efforts to make homes more energy-efficient, reduce energy consumption, and lower carbon emissions. The specific eligibility criteria and funding amounts may vary depending on the measure and the location of the property.

It's important for homeowners and residents to check with relevant authorities or energy providers to determine their eligibility for ECO4 funding and to explore the available measures that can help improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
